Rant: that customer who fought me over a $40 diagnostic fee
Last month in Phoenix, a guy brought in a 2017 F-150 with a rough idle and insisted I just slap in new plugs without checking anything else. He got loud when I charged the $40 diagnostic fee, saying I was just trying to milk him for hours I didn't work on. I found a cracked coil boot on cylinder 5, fixed it, and he paid, but he muttered about being ripped off the whole time. Has anyone else dealt with customers who treat diagnosis like a scam, and how do you explain the value of finding the real issue without them getting defensive?

The only thing more cracked than that coil boot was his sense of how diagnostics work.
