Question about a torque spec on a 2018 Ford F-150 timing chain job

My buddy Jake at the shop in Springfield told me to just go by feel on the camshaft caps, said the book spec was too high. I followed the manual instead and torqued them to 89 inch-pounds. Found out later his method led to a spun bearing on another truck. Has anyone else run into this with the 3.5 EcoBoost?

Yeah, reminds me of my cousin who bought a "project car" on a gut feeling. That thing's still in his driveway three years later.
