I used to think those cheap scan tools from the parts store were a total waste of money.

My neighbor, who works on semis, saw me struggling with a check engine light on my personal truck and said, 'Man, that $80 basic reader can at least point you at the system, saves you an hour of guesswork.' I borrowed his and it gave me the P0302 code, which led me straight to a bad coil pack. What's the cheapest tool you've bought that actually saved your butt on a job?

Honestly, a cheap multimeter has saved me more times than I can count.

Found a dead outlet in my kitchen last month that would have cost a fortune to have an electrician trace. Just kept checking continuity down the line with a twenty dollar meter until I found the bad connection behind a switch plate. Those little beeps tell you everything. It turns a scary problem into a simple puzzle.
