Guy at the shop in Tucson told me he never torques lug nuts, just hits them with the impact til they stop spinning
I cringed but he swears he's never had a wheel come off in 20 years, and now I'm second guessing if I'm wasting time with a torque wrench on every single car. Am I wrong for thinking that's asking for a warped rotor or a snapped stud down the road?

never had a wheel come off in 20 years" is the same energy as my uncle who says he's never worn a seatbelt and he's fine. Ugga dugga til it stops is how you snap a stud in the driveway of the next guy who has to change that tire.
