Clutch job on a 2005 Ranger turned into a 4 day mess because of one rounded bolt
Had a 2005 Ranger come in last Monday for a clutch replacement, told the guy 2 days and $850. Got the trans out fine but one bellhousing bolt was rounded so bad my extractor set just polished it. Spent 3 hours with a torch and a chisel before I finally cut the head off and pulled the trans with the bolt still in the block. Then I had to drill and tap it on my back in the driveway because the truck was too low for my lift. Back when I started at a dealer in the 90s we just grabbed the hot wrench sooner, now I overthink it trying to save the threads. Anybody got a go-to trick for stuck bellhousing bolts besides heat and prayer?
