Warning: I spent 3 years saying yes to every favor at church and it was making me bitter
Last Sunday I counted my calendar and saw I had signed up for 7 different things at my church in Denver over the past 6 weeks, from nursery duty to parking lot help. I finally said no to running the fall bake sale and my chest felt tight for a full day, like I had done something wrong. Then a friend asked me why I looked so tired all the time and I heard myself say "I don't know, I just can't say no." That was the moment it clicked, I wasn't being kind, I was just scared of letting people down. Has anyone else had to practice saying no for the first time, and how did you handle the guilt?
