Unpopular opinion: Asking 'anything' doesn't mean you should ask anything

I was talking with my friend Carla in Denver last week, and she said the best questions here are specific, not just random. She pointed out that a vague 'ask me anything' often gets boring answers, but a focused one like 'ask me about my job fixing antique clocks' starts a real talk. It made me see that the community works better when we guide what we want to be asked. Has anyone else found that putting a little fence around 'anything' gets better results?

Wow, I totally used to think the opposite but you're right.

Remember that time someone asked for book suggestions and got a recipe for pickles instead?
