Took 3 hours to fix a leak my 'pro' friend swore was the pipe

My bathroom sink dripped for a week. Friend came over, said it was the supply line, swapped it in 20 minutes. Drip came back that night. Turns out the shutoff valve under the sink was the real culprit. I replaced that in 15 minutes after watching two YouTube videos. Why do people oversimplify fixes like that? Anyone else wasted a whole afternoon on advice from someone who meant well but guessed wrong?

It's like he didn't even listen to the sound it was making, a steady leak from the valve sounds totally different than one from the line. I get that friends wanna help, but guessing wrong and wasting your whole afternoon is worse than just admitting "I don't know" up front. Honestly, YouTube has saved me more times than I can count, and these "pros" just make it harder to trust their word. Next time, I'd just buy him a six-pack and do the research myself.
