The "Google it" reflex is killing how we ask questions now
I grew up asking my dad stuff and he'd say 'look it up,' meaning grab the encyclopedia set we had. Now if someone asks me a simple question at work, I see them grab their phone instead of just talking it out. Last week a coworker spent 10 minutes searching for a fact I could have explained in two, and the answer he found was outdated anyway. Anyone else notice people skip the quick human answer for a slower search result, or is that just my office?

Searching has become this weird default for everything now, even stuff that's way faster to just talk through. I notice it with directions too, people will pull up GPS for a route they've driven a hundred times instead of just asking a local or using their own brain. It's like the act of searching makes people feel productive even when the answer is sitting right in front of them, or in the head of the person next to them. Pretty sure we're trading actual conversation for a slower, less accurate version of the same thing.
