My uncle told me to roll my 401k into an IRA 5 years ago, and I finally did the math on it
Back in 2019 my uncle sat me down at a family BBQ in Tulsa and told me to stop ignoring the old 401k from my job, because the fees were eating me alive. I blew him off for years, figured it was only a couple bucks here and there. Last month I finally pulled the statements and saw I was paying 1.2% a year in plan fees while a rollover IRA at a broker would've cost me almost nothing. Did the math and it was about $3,400 I basically handed over for doing nothing. Anyone else get a piece of advice that sat in their head for way too long before it actually clicked?
