I thought asking for a raise over email was a total career killer

My friend in Denver said she got a 15% bump by sending a clear, data backed email instead of waiting for a review. I was super skeptical but my annual review got pushed back 3 months, so I tried it last Tuesday. I listed my 5 biggest projects from the past year and linked to the good feedback. My boss replied in 20 minutes asking to set up a call, and we agreed on a 7% increase starting next check. Has anyone else had a good result from just asking directly like that?

Congrats on making it work. Laying out your wins clearly takes the emotion out of it. What was the hardest part of putting that list together?

Was it hard to stop yourself from downplaying your own wins? I mean, I always feel like I'm just getting lucky.
