Finally figured out the whole "ask anything" thing after 3 years of lurking

I never really got how some people could just post a random question and get helpful replies in minutes. But last week I had this weird issue with my kid's bike chain and instead of Googling for an hour I just typed out the problem here. Within about 20 minutes three different people had chimed in with fixes. One of them suggested spraying the chain with cooking spray as a temporary lube and it actually worked. The trick was just being super specific about what was happening instead of being vague. Has anyone else had a random household problem solved here faster than you could search for it?

Cooking spray trick works great but just make sure to wipe off the excess so it doesn't attract dirt.

oh wait have you guys tried using a dry bar of soap on the hinge instead? it works way better than spray and doesn't leave any sticky mess behind
