Dumped $85 into a so-called carpet cleaning machine that barely works

I bought a Bissell carpet cleaner from a big box store last month thinking it would save me money over renting. After three passes on a single stain, the machine just pushed dirty water around and left everything wet for two days. Anyone else get burned by those budget home cleaning gadgets that promise more than they deliver?

Did you try their spot cleaner too? Same deal, total junk.

Wait until you look closer at the specs on those things, because you'll realize the mistake was skipping the rental from the start. @aaronf40 is right about their spot cleaner, I watched a friend fight with one for an hour on a juice spill and it just smeared it around. The big box store models have these tiny motors that can't pull anything out of the rug, so you're basically mopping with a sponge that never gets squeezed. Three passes means you just made that stain wetter and soaked the padding underneath.
