Why does nobody warn you about those blind box anime figures

I kept seeing those mystery capsule figures at the mall and thought hey, 12 bucks each is whatever. Spent 60 dollars over two weeks chasing one specific character from my favorite series. Got three duplicates of the same pose and two of a side character I didnt even want. The store clerk literally said "that's the gacha life" when I asked if they could swap. Has anyone else wasted money on these things or am I the only one who fell for the hype?

Fell for the same trap last month with a different series, ended up with five of the same cat girl and zero of the one I actually wanted. It's a scam disguised as fun, and the clerks just shrug cause they know you'll keep coming back.
