Why does nobody talk about how anime dubs changed after 2016?
I have been watching dubbed anime since the early 2000s, and something definitely shifted around 2016. Back then, the voice actors sounded more natural, like they were having a real conversation with pauses and breaths. Now it feels like everyone delivers lines with this constant, high-energy punch, even during quiet scenes. I think the push for same-day simulcasts made studios rush recordings, so actors don't get the time to sit with the material. Compare the original Fullmetal Alchemist dub to anything from the last five years, and you will hear the difference in pacing. Does anyone else miss that older, more relaxed style, or am I just stuck in my ways? Some of the newer shows are still good, but the delivery often takes me out of the moment.
