Was sure I'd hate Re:Zero after the first 3 episodes, but something changed my mind

I started Re:Zero last week and almost dropped it after episode 3 because the main character kept dying and seemed so whiny. My friend convinced me to stick with it until episode 7, and that's when the whole loop mechanic got way more complex and darker. The way Subaru's mental state breaks down over his 5+ deaths in the mansion arc made me realize it was actually a smart show about trauma, not just another isekai. Has anyone else had a late turning point with a hyped series?

Did you catch that interview with the writer where he said he based Subaru's constant dying on his own anxiety issues? Made the whole show click for me.

I read an article that said the director wanted Subaru to feel like a real person failing at things, not a hero. That stuck with me because most isekai guys get OP powers right away. And yeah @mila_sullivan I saw that interview too. The writer talking about his own anxiety really explains why Subaru's suffering feels so raw and not just edgy for no reason. It turned the whole show into a study of how someone copes with failure and mental illness. That mansion arc where Subaru starts laughing at his own deaths was the moment it clicked for me that this wasn't your typical anime. The show earns its dark moments instead of just throwing them in for shock value.
