My friend told me to skip the first 24 episodes of One Piece and I'm glad I didn't listen.
He said the Arlong Park arc was the only good part of the East Blue saga, but watching from the start gave me the context to actually care about the crew when they faced him in episode 31.

A video essay I saw broke down how shows like One Piece use early episodes to build "emotional debt." You have to invest in the characters first so the big moments actually mean something later. Skipping that is like trying to collect interest on an empty bank account.

Yeah exactly! Skipping all that setup would've made the payoff feel totally empty.

Totally agree! My friend tried to get me into a show by showing me just the big finale episode first. I was so confused and didn't care about any of the characters. It felt like watching strangers at a party, and all the emotional moments just fell flat. She learned her lesson and now makes people start from the beginning.
