Just found out most anime studio workers make less than $15k a year

I was reading a report from the Japan Animation Creators Association and it said the average animator made like $12,000 in 2023. That can't be right for the amount of work they put into shows we binge in a weekend, anyone else seen this stat and felt bad about it?

and yeah I saw that same report and it honestly made me feel kind of gross the next time I started a new season of anime. I mean, I remember reading somewhere that some of these animators are literally sleeping under their desks and working 12 hour days just to get a single episode done. I had a friend who tried to get into the industry a few years back and he said the pay was so bad he had to live with like four other guys in a tiny apartment just to afford rent. idk maybe it's just me but it makes you wonder how much pressure these studios are under from the production committees to crank out content cheaply. it's like they're treating animators like disposable parts instead of actual people with bills to pay.

I get what you're saying but those jobs are still voluntary and nobody's forcing them to stay.
