I used to skip filler arcs until a buddy showed me the beach episode in Gintama

I always thought filler was a waste of time, but he made me watch that one and the character building actually paid off later in the main story. Anyone else find a filler arc that changed their mind about skipping them?

The Chikara arc in Naruto is exactly what did it for me too, that fight scene with the animation was insane and it actually made me care more about the side characters lol. I was stubborn about skipping everything until a friend made me watch the Gintama beach episode and now I always give filler at least a few episodes to hook me. It's wild how much character depth you miss when you just rush through the main plot without those breather moments.

Oh, boy, I have to jump in here. Filler arcs can be surprisingly good if the writers care about the characters. The Gintama beach episode is a perfect example, it's silly and offbeat but it adds layers to the group dynamic that pay off later. I used to skip all filler in Naruto too until I watched the early Chikara arc, it had some of the best animation and emotional beats in the whole series. Sometimes these episodes let you breathe and just enjoy the characters without the main plot rushing things along.
