I tried watching anime at 1.5x speed for a week and here's what happened

I got tired of falling behind on new seasonal shows so I bumped the playback speed up to 1.5x on Crunchyroll. At first it felt like everyone was rushing through their lines, but by day three my brain just adjusted to it. I managed to clear 7 episodes of a 24 episode show in one sitting last Tuesday, which was wild. The downside is I missed a lot of the quiet moments and sound design that makes slower scenes hit harder. I also caught myself reaching for the speed button on a movie I was watching with friends, which felt wrong. Now I'm back to normal speed but I keep thinking the characters talk too slow. Has anyone else messed with playback speed and found a sweet spot for action shows versus drama shows?

Seven episodes in one sitting is just insane to me. My brain would turn to mush after two, maybe three if the show was really good. I feel like you skipped half the reason people even watch anime, the animation is as much about the pauses as the action. Missing the quiet moments is a huge deal, those are where the character work actually happens. Watching something on 1.5x feels like you're just checking a box instead of actually living in that world. I get wanting to catch up but that's a whole different way of consuming it, I couldn't do it.
