Dub vs sub debate got flipped by a random stranger at a con

I was waiting in line at Anime NYC last weekend and this guy argued that watching in dub actually makes you notice background animation more since you're not reading. I always figured subs were superior for authenticity, but he had a point about attention split. Which side do you land on when a show has a weak English cast but fluid action scenes?

My buddy swears he caught a background joke in dub he missed three times in sub, so now he's team dub for action shows.
