Wasted $220 on a wireless alarm kit for a 1920s house, walls ate the signal
Honestly I should have known better after doing this for 9 years, but a customer in Grand Rapids talked me into trying a wireless kit on her old plaster and lath house. I quoted her $220 for the sensors plus my labor, thinking wireless would save us both a day of fishing wire. Ngl that first day was great, everything paired in the office, then I mounted the first door contact and the keypad couldn't see it from 15 feet away. Plaster over metal lath is basically a faraday cage, and the signal died the second it went through one wall. I ended up pulling wire in every spot anyway, so the wireless kit went in a box and she paid for both. Has anyone found a repeater setup that actually punches through lath and plaster, or do I just refuse those jobs from now on?
