Vent: That $180 cellular dialer upgrade was a total waste
Paid a premium for a 4G module last month in Phoenix and the damn thing drops signal in the same closet where my old 3G unit hummed fine for 5 years. Anyone else get burned by the LTE transition hype when the copper lines still work better in basements?

Man, that’s rough. But here’s the thing nobody talks about: it’s not the 4G itself, it’s the frequency bands. Old 3G ran lower frequencies that punched through concrete like nothing. These new LTE units, especially the cheaper ones, often use higher bands that die in a basement or a closet with a metal door. I tested two different modems in my own crawlspace and the difference was night and day. One had a removable antenna jack, the other didn’t. Guess which one is still sitting in a drawer. Before you ditch it, check if your unit has an external antenna port. A $15 antenna on a 10 foot cable fixed my buddy’s setup in a parking garage. It changes everything.
