Hardwiring sensors in new construction is a pointless tradition that needs to die.

Wireless tech has caught up, and the extra labor just drives up the bill for no added security.

Honestly, that battery point is why I went hardwired in my own house.

Hold up, that's not quite true. A hardwired sensor doesn't rely on a battery that can die at the worst possible time. For core safety stuff, a physical wire is still the most reliable link you can get.

Changed my mind on this after reading stella97's point about batteries. For something as important as a smoke alarm, you really don't want that link to fail because of a dead battery. A wire just seems smarter for the main safety gear.
