After a raccoon set off a motion sensor in a Seattle attic for the third night in a row, I now always ask about pets and wildlife before placing a detector.

The homeowner never mentioned the family of raccoons living in the eaves, and the 2 AM false alarms for a week straight finally made me add a new checklist item to my initial site survey.

Honestly, I doubt they were hiding it on purpose. In my experience, people just get used to weird house noises and forget to mention them. They probably didn't even connect the raccoons to the sensor placement.

Wait, they just casually didn't mention a whole family of raccoons? That feels like the kind of detail you lead with. I'd be asking about more than just pets after that.
