Tried making kale chips in the air fryer and got a surprise

I threw in a big handful of kale with some olive oil and salt, set it for 5 minutes at 350. Opened it up and found a pile of green dust with a few shriveled leaves floating around. Anyone else accidentally turn their snack into a science experiment?

Check your time and temp again. 350 for 5 minutes is way too much for kale, it needs 300 for maybe 3 minutes max. You basically cremated it, next time go lower and check at 2 minutes.

@henderson.mason nailed it honestly. People always think higher heat means crispy goodness but with leafy greens it just turns them into ash. I been making kale chips for years and 300 is the sweet spot. Even 3 minutes can be pushing it depending on how thick the leaves are. Better to undercook a little and let them crisp up as they cool then to ruin a whole batch.
