Talked to a chef at a diner about air fryer temps and it made me paranoid

Was grabbing breakfast at this place off Route 9 and the cook came out for a smoke. We got to talking about air fryers and he said he never trusts the preset buttons on them. Said theyre usually off by 25-50 degrees and you gotta test yours with a thermometer. Ive been using my air fryer for like 8 months now just hitting the chicken button and hoping. Went home and checked mine and yeah it was 30 degrees cooler than it said. Been cooking everything wrong this whole time. Anyone else ever test theirs?

Bought a cheap meat thermometer off Amazon last month and tested my air fryer out of curiosity. My chicken button was off by almost 40 degrees. Same thing happened with my mom's fancy brand new one. Now I just set the temp manually and use the thermometer every time I cook something important. Makes me wonder how many dried out chicken breasts and undercooked fries I've eaten this past year.

Ha! So my air fryer's been gaslighting me for months and I didn't even know. Guess I'm gonna be that weirdo with a thermometer in my kitchen now too.
