Rant: I always thought reheating fries in the air fryer was just a thing people post online, then I saw the numbers
I was reading a test kitchen write-up last week and they weighed a batch of fries before and after reheating. A 4 ounce serving came back at 3.6 ounces in the air fryer at 350 for 4 minutes, while the microwave batch lost almost nothing in weight but went rubbery within a minute of coming out. That weight loss is water leaving, which is exactly why the air fryer ones taste crisp instead of steamed. The number that surprised me was the temperature drop inside the basket, from 350 down to about 290 once cold fries hit it, so the first minute does almost nothing. Now I run mine for 2 minutes just to knock the chill off, pull the basket, shake, then go 3 more minutes, and the texture is way closer to fresh. Has anyone timed a second batch right after a first one, because my basket seems to lose heat faster the second time around?
