My sister-in-law told me to stop using oil spray in my air fryer

I was making fries last week and she saw me spray them with that canola oil stuff. She said 'you're just gumming up the basket and making the fan sticky, use a brush and a tiny bit of real oil.' I argued with her for a minute because the spray is so easy, but I tried her way the next day. I brushed maybe half a teaspoon of avocado oil on some potato wedges. They came out way crispier and the basket was way cleaner after, no weird residue. It totally changed how I prep stuff now. I feel dumb for going through two cans of spray a month. Has anyone else switched from spray to brushing oil and noticed a difference?

Totally switched to brushing oil on everything now. The spray left this gross film on the basket (and honestly, probably in my lungs). A little real oil in a bowl with a brush is just better.

Ngl I'm the exact opposite on this one. Tried the brush method for like two weeks and honestly it was a mess - oil everywhere, drips off the brush, and I was constantly cleaning the bowl. The spray is just way more convenient for me, I can coat everything evenly in like 10 seconds. Plus the film on the basket? That's just seasoning, man. It builds up over time and makes everything nonstick. A little heat and it burns off clean. I really don't buy the lung thing either unless you're huffing the can directly.
