Looked up how much power one ChatGPT query uses and it shocked me

I read a research paper from UC Berkeley that said each query to a model like GPT-3 uses about 1,000 watt-hours. That is basically running a fridge for a full day. For one dumb question. Made me think twice about asking it random stuff when I'm just bored.

Wait, does that include when the query just errors out or someone closes the tab mid-response? Seems like the waste could be way worse than the UC Berkeley numbers if so.
