Can we talk about how many 'compostable' forks just don't break down?

I threw a batch of those corn-based 'compostable' forks from a party in my backyard bin 8 months ago, and when I dug them up last week near Austin, they looked almost new. My neighbor said they need a special industrial facility to actually decompose. Is there a real home test to tell if these things actually work, or should I just stick to metal for gatherings?

8 months and still looking new? That's nuts honestly. I figured those things would at least get soft or crumble after half a year in the dirt. Guess I'll just stick to washing metal forks instead of trusting that "compostable" label ever again.

My friend @kelly_roberts actually buried one of those compostable forks in her garden as a test. Dug it up 10 months later and it still looked like the day she put it in there, just a little dusty. She just tosses her metal ones in the dishwasher now, way less hassle.
