Appreciation post: the motel owner who didn't charge me extra after my kid threw up in the lobby last Wednesday

We were driving through Flagstaff on a road trip and my 4 year old got carsick right as we checked in. He projectile vomited all over the front desk area, like a scene from a horror movie. The owner, this older guy named Jerry, just handed me a mop and said 'kids happen, don't worry about it.' He even gave us a free bag of ice for the cooler the next morning. I offered to pay for cleaning but he waved me off and said he's seen worse from drunk spring breakers. Has anyone else had a stranger show way more grace than you expected in a messy situation?

Used to be one of those people who figured motel owners were all just out to nickel and dime you for everything. This story totally flipped that for me though. Jerry sounds like a solid dude who actually gets that life gets messy sometimes, not just someone trying to squeeze every last dollar out of a bad situation. Really makes you wanna go back and give that place your business next time you're passing through, you know? Kind of restores your faith that there's still decent folks running small places like that.

Yeah exactly, places like that are rare now where the owner actually lives on site and treats people like neighbors instead of customers. Makes you want to spread the word about Jerry's place just so more folks support that kind of old school hospitality.
