Hit 1000 sales on Etsy this morning and felt nothing

I just crossed 1000 total sales on my Etsy shop and expected to feel pumped, but instead I was like "okay next." It made me wonder why we chase these milestones at work when they don't really change anything. Has anyone else hit a big number and been totally underwhelmed?

Kinda makes you wonder if the chase is better than the catch most times" - that line really stuck with me, @jamie712. I think you nailed it. But here's the thing I keep coming back to: if the chase is where the feeling is, then why do we obsess so much over the numbers anyway? Is it just that we're trained from school or work to think bigger numbers mean success, even when our gut tells us otherwise? Or is it more about proving something to other people rather than ourselves?

You ever read that book about how our brains get used to stuff really fast? I saw something online about hedonic adaptation and it clicked for me. It's basically how we hit a goal and then our brain just resets the bar. Instead of feeling good, you're already thinking about the next thing. I had the same thing happen when I ran my first 10k race. Finished it and felt nothing but tired, lol. Kinda makes you wonder if the chase is better than the catch most times.
