Finally realized my old boss was gaslighting me about the schedule

Last month I found a notebook where my manager wrote down the original shifts before he changed them, and it proved he was swapping people around just to mess with me. Three years of thinking I was forgetful and the guy was just a liar who loved control. Anyone else have a boss who made you question your own memory?

Started keeping my own written log of what I was told versus what actually happened after my boss kept insisting he never said we could leave early on Fridays. Turns out he was right that he never said it out loud, but he'd been putting "Friday early close" on the calendar for weeks and then erasing it before the end of the day. Made me feel like a total space case until a coworker snapped a photo of the calendar one afternoon. Still laugh thinking about how I almost went to a memory specialist over a guy who just wanted to watch people squirm.

That kind of gaslighting is unfortunately more common than people realize, especially in workplaces where there's no paper trail to back you up. It's amazing how often we're trained to doubt our own senses rather than question someone who's deliberately messing with reality.
