Best week I ever had at work then I walked out Monday morning

I managed a small team at a print shop in Portland and one week we nailed every single order ahead of schedule with zero errors, the owner even bought us pizza on Friday. Then Monday comes and he pulled me aside to say they were cutting my position because they could 'save money' by having a lead tech do my job for less pay. Has anyone else had a really good stretch at work and then got blindsided like that?

@terry_walker sawdust pizza is exactly right. My uncle once got a big "employee of the year" plaque framed on the wall only to have his hours slashed the same week, real classy move from management.

That pizza must have tasted like sawdust afterwards. My buddy worked at a car wash where they gave him employee of the month and a bonus then laid him off two days later because the owner's nephew needed a job. Bosses love that fake pat on the back right before they drop the hammer. Your story reminds me of a guy I knew who got a gift card to a nice restaurant from his manager and then got fired over email the next morning. Some people just have zero shame about it.
