Bought a junkyard transmission for my old Tacoma for $350, lasted 3 weeks then started whining like crazy
Should I try to rebuild it myself or just cut my losses and hunt down another donor truck?

...and honestly that's kind of how everything feels nowadays. Like you try to save a little money somewhere and it just comes back to bite you twice as hard. I mean I've been down that road with used appliances, furniture, even a lawnmower once. It's like the stuff that's supposed to be cheap ends up costing you more in time and headaches. Maybe it's just me but I feel like you either get lucky or you don't.

I get what you're saying about the "you either get lucky or you don't" part, but I kinda see it different. I've had pretty good luck with used stuff honestly, like my coffee table was $20 off Facebook marketplace and it's been solid for three years. The trick for me is to be super picky about what I buy used. I won't touch anything that moves or has a motor unless I can see it running, and even then I'm skeptical. Appliances and lawnmowers are risky, yeah, but furniture that just sits there? I feel like you can save a lot without the headache. Not saying you're wrong, just that maybe it's about knowing which battles to fight.
