Had a week where my bike just kept leaking oil no matter what I did

Last Tuesday I got home from a ride and saw a puddle under the crankcase. Thought it was the drain plug, so I torqued it to spec. Next day, still dripping. Then I replaced the crush washer. Still leaking. Finally found a hairline crack in the oil filter housing. $18 for a new cover from a guy on Craigslist and it's been dry for three days. Anyone else have a simple fix turn into a whole week of hunting? What's the weirdest place you found a leak?

Wait, did you try checking the oil filter housing yet? I had the exact same nightmare last year, chasing a drip for a week before I spotted a tiny crack right where the filter seats. Replaced the whole cover for $15 at a salvage yard and it's been bone dry since. Sometimes you gotta look past the obvious spots like the drain plug and gaskets.

Yeah, same thing happened on my Ford. Crack was invisible till I took it off.
