Pulled into the lot at 3am and the whole automated gate system was dead

I work security at a warehouse outside Cleveland and last Tuesday the gate arm just hung there like a limp noodle when I tried to scan my badge. Had to manually push it up and prop it with a cone while dispatch figured out the software glitch. Anyone else have to MacGyver something dumb just to clock in on third shift?

Did you ever find out what actually crashed the system? I had a similar thing happen at my old apartment complex where the key fob reader just stopped working for no reason... turned out a raccoon chewed through the control wire behind the gate. Property manager had to wait until morning to call someone because it was some weird proprietary system. Three hours of just sitting there in my car waiting for someone to show up with a physical key.

Not a raccoon, but a clogged drain line shorted out the main board. Proprietary system too, had to wait till morning for a replacement.
