Cashier at 3am asked if I was a vampire

Last Tuesday around 3:30am I stopped at the 7-Eleven on Route 9 for coffee. The kid at the register looked at me dead serious and goes, 'You one of them night creatures?' I told him I just work the graveyard shift at the warehouse. He said 'Uh huh sure, that's what the last one said too.' Been thinking about it all week, kinda creepy but funny too. Anyone else get weird comments from strangers during your night runs?

Funny how night shift people get lumped into this whole underground world. Seems like the later it gets, the more the cashiers start making up these little stories to keep themselves entertained. Your mileage may vary but I've noticed that 3am clerks have their own weird mythology going on.

That cashier's comment about "the last one" is exactly the kind of thing that makes those night shifts feel like their own little world. It's almost like they've built up this whole lore around the regulars who come in at odd hours.
