Had to choose between a standing desk and a new office chair last week

My back was killing me after sitting in that cheap Staples chair for 2 years. I had $400 set aside for upgrades but could only afford one or the other. I went with a $300 standing desk converter from Amazon and kept my old chair. Bad move. My legs and feet hurt way worse by day three than my back ever did. Now I'm stuck cranking up the desk every 20 minutes just to get some relief. Has anyone else made the wrong call between desk and chair?

Called my buddy Dave after I read this. He went through the exact same thing last year. Bought a fancy standing desk from a coworker for $150, figured his old racing-style gaming chair would do the trick. By week two he was standing on a rolled up yoga mat and still got terrible shin splints. Found out later the desk was too low for his height anyway, so he was hunched over. He ended up selling the desk and buying a refurbished Steelcase chair for $250. Said his back felt better in two days. Did you try flipping your old chair cushion or anything?

Lol "fancy standing desk from a coworker for $150" - that's basically a yard sale price, what did he expect? But for real though, did Dave ever try one of those cheap anti-fatigue mats from Harbor Freight before he gave up on standing? I keep wondering if those things actually help or if they're just a gimmick.
