Had a user tell me my rules were 'too strict' and it got me thinking

I had a guy in my forum yesterday complain that our 3-day ban for posting personal info was over the top. He said other communities let that slide with just a warning. I started second-guessing myself for a second, but then I remembered the time we had doxxing lead to someone getting harassed at their actual job. Why do we keep letting users make us feel bad for protecting people?

Wait, other communities let doxxing slide with just a warning? That's insane. Full on how is that even a debate after someone lost their job over it.

And the thing nobody wants to talk about is who's actually profiting from doxxing. Those accounts that scrape public info and sell it to data brokers or stalkerware companies, they're the real problem, not some random person posting a screenshot. But since they're businesses with lawyers and terms of service loopholes, they get a free pass while regular people get banned for sharing a LinkedIn profile. Isn't it funny how the money trail always seems to lead away from enforcement?
