Coilovers vs lowering springs on my 93 Miata
I used to run just lowering springs on my Miata and thought it was fine. But after switching to a set of BC Racing coilovers at $900 installed last month, the difference is night and day. The ride quality on these potholed roads in Portland is way better now. Has anyone else found coilovers worth the extra cash over a simple spring swap?

Man yeah that's exactly it. It's like that whole "buy once cry once" thing people say but it goes for so much stuff. I noticed the same pattern with my bike too, went cheap on a suspension fork and hated it for two years before finally just buying a good one. The savings from skipping the cheap step would have paid for half of the good one. Same with my rice cooker, I kept replacing the $20 ones until my roommate got a $60 one and it's still going after 4 years. It's funny how we all gotta learn that lesson over and over on different things though. Your BC's are probably gonna last way longer than those springs would have too, especially if you're dealing with Portland's crap roads.

The whole "spend more once" vs "save now and pay later" thing applies to so many parts of life, not just cars. My coffee maker decision went the same way, cheap one broke in 6 months but the nicer one I bought after is still going strong three years later.
