Unpopular opinion: hitting 1,000 days without a single confrontation actually made me less street smart

I tracked every close call in my neighborhood in Detroit for almost 3 years, and after hitting day 1,000 without any real conflict, I realized I'd gotten complacent. Walked past a guy casing cars last month because I forgot how to read the signs. Anyone else find that staying completely out of trouble can dull your instincts?

I read somewhere that avoiding conflict can actually make you worse at spotting danger.

Kinda makes sense though. I had a buddy who always kept the peace no matter what, and he missed some pretty obvious signs someone was trying to rip him off. Conflict avoidance can make you too trusting, I guess.
