Overheard a guy at the bus stop say "never trust a smile that shows too many teeth"

He was older, maybe 60s, talking to a younger kid. Said he learned it after getting scammed by a car salesman who flashed a huge grin the whole time. Made me think about how often we ignore gut feelings just because someone seems friendly. Has anyone else caught a random piece of advice like that that stuck with you?

You ever met someone who laughs way too hard at their own jokes? Idk it's like a red flag for me. My buddy Dave once told me about this dude he met at a bar who was all big smiles and backslaps, turned out he was trying to sell him a fake timeshare. He said the guy's grin never dropped even when Dave called him out on it, just kept trying to smooth talk his way out. Kinda creepy when you think about it, makes that bus stop guy sound like he knows what's up.

Funny thing is, that over-the-top laughter thing actually has a name in psychology circles. It's called "affect management" where some people use big fake reactions to control how others see them. Been around enough shady sales guys to know that grin is usually them buying time while their brain scrambles for the next lie. The ones who laugh the loudest at their own stuff are often the ones hiding the most.
