Almost lost my dog grooming van keys because I trusted a broken keyring

I got one of those fancy carabiner keyrings from REI last month thinking it was solid. Last Tuesday I was loading up my van for a house call in Denver and the clip just popped open. My keys fell into a storm drain grate on the sidewalk. I had to pull out my phone flashlight and fish them out with a wire hanger I had in the back. Took me 15 minutes and I was late for my appointment. Has anyone else had a keyring or clip fail on them like this when you least expected it?

REI sold you a carabiner that couldn't even hold keys?

Dude YES, absolutely. I had the exact same thing happen with a carabiner keyring I got from a gas station, of all places. I was at the grocery store loading bags into my car and the little spring gate just gave out, and my keys slid right off onto the pavement. I felt like such a fool. I totally feel you on the wire hanger trick, @grace_perry44 I ended up using a plastic grocery bag to scoop my keys out from under a park bench. It's wild how we trust these little metal clips with everything we need for the day, and they just betray us.
