Wasted $180 on a storage unit for a year before realizing I forgot what was even in it

After twelve months of monthly payments I finally drove down to clear it out and found a box of old newspapers and a broken lamp from my college apartment in Austin, anyone else ever pay to store junk they never needed?

Did you actually sit there and unpack that box hoping there would be something worthwhile inside? Ngl I've done the same thing with a storage unit I had for two years, ended up just throwing most of it in a dumpster. Honestly the worst part is realizing you could've spent that cash on literally anything else.

Man I gotta be honest, I used to be the guy who said "just throw it all out" without thinking twice. But last year my buddy found his grandpa's old war medals in a box he was about to toss and that changed my whole view. Now I'm that person sitting on the floor sifting through stuff like I'm on some treasure hunt show. Still end up tossing 90 percent of it but that one find made it worth the sore back.
