I finally tried a 24 hour social media fast and ended up talking to my neighbor's cat for 20 minutes
Last Saturday I put my phone in a drawer at 8am and decided to just sit on my porch for a bit. By noon I had a full conversation with Mr. Whiskers about his opinions on the mailman, which felt more real than any Instagram comment I've ever gotten. Has anyone else had a weird run in with a local animal after ditching their screen?

My neighbor's parrot learned to mimic my ringtone so now I get fake calls from a bird who just wants to gossip about the squirrels. Talked to him for a solid 15 minutes yesterday about why he prefers sunflower seeds over peanuts.

I used to think talking to a bird was just silly, but honestly this kinda changed my mind. A parrot that picks up on your ringtone and actually wants to chat about squirrel drama is pretty smart, isn't it? Not gonna lie, I'd probably end up having whole conversations about seed preferences too.
