Found a can of green beans from my grandma's pantry that expired in 2012, opened it anyway

I was at her place in Michigan last weekend cleaning out the cupboards and found this lone can from 2012 behind the soup. The beans were all mushy and smelled kinda metallic but I tried one bite just to see, then immediately threw the rest out. Has anyone else ever tried something that old out of pure curiosity?

Well honestly I think you should have eaten the whole can, that's just perfectly aged flavor right there. People are way too precious about expiration dates, they're just suggestions and those beans were practically vintage.

Lisa, 3.5 years past the date on a can of beans is where I draw the line lol. Were these actually in your pantry or did you find them in like a time capsule? I'm all for pushing expiration dates but at some point that's not vintage, that's just a science experiment waiting to happen. Did you at least check if the can was bulging or rusted before you ate them?
