That 'self-cleaning' oven setting turned my kitchen into a smoke factory
Ran the self-clean cycle on my stove last night and the smoke alarm went off for 20 minutes straight... guess the previous owner never cleaned the oven either. Anyone else have a self-clean horror story or am I just cursed with lazy appliance ghosts?

A self clean cycle hits 900 degrees, not 500 like my manual says.

Oh man, my self-clean horror story is right there with yours. I hit that button and within ten minutes the whole house smelled like a burnt barbecue and a chemical lab had a fight. The smoke detector in the hallway started shrieking, and my cat actually looked at me with what I swear was judgment. I had to open every window in January and stand in the driveway for 20 minutes waving a towel. Now I just scrub the thing by hand and pretend the self-clean button doesn't exist, it's basically a fancy alarm system for ruining your day.
