Showerthought: My neighbor's weed whacker technique finally clicked for me after 6 years

I was out front last Tuesday watching him edge the driveway and he never stopped to shake the line loose like I always do. He just keeps the head tilted at a 45 degree angle the whole time and lets it wear down naturally. I tried it on my own lawn right after and didn't have to bump the line once for the whole yard. Has anyone else just been doing it the hard way this whole time without realizing there was a simpler trick?

Read an article about this actually... they said most people overfeed the line because they're used to the bump-feed style heads. The constant angle trick works better with those automatic feed heads that just let the centrifugal force do the work. I switched to a different brand of line too, the square shaped stuff instead of round, and it seems to hold up longer between adjustments.

Heard the square line lasts longer too. Gonna have to try that.
